Durable Kitchen Floor Options

If you think about rooms that get the most use in your house - your kitchen is right up there on the list! Between all of the dropped utensils, the spills and drips, and  everything in between - your kitchen has to be able to handle it all and look good doing it! While you might know exactly what type of countertops or color of kitchen cabinets you want, the kitchen floor can’t be overlooked! Today, I’m sharing my favorite kitchen floor materials that balance style + functionality!

CERAMIC TILES

Ceramic tiles can be a great fit for the kitchen because they are incredibly durable, stain and water-resistant. Especially in a warm state like Texas, ceramic tiles provide a cooler floor. Worried about your pets scratching your floors? Ceramic tiles are the perfect option if you’d like an option that looks like wood but won’t scratch!

VINYL

Vinyl is one of the best options out there for kitchen floors if you’re weighing value per square foot. Vinyl plank flooring can match a variety of different floor finishes and is water-resistant. Plus, it’s super easy to clean!

DURABLE CONCRETE

Concrete is a great option for ground-level kitchens that is both durable and easy to maintain! A concrete slab may already have been placed beneath  your existing flooring for you to work with. If you aren’t sold on a plain concrete look, modern techniques allow for new, luxurious finishes.

HARDWOOD

Hardwood floors will always be a classic look! However, hardwood can be tough to work within a kitchen because the material is porous and relatively soft. A quick fix to this is keeping your floor treated with a quality polyurethane-based finish. Hardwood will show wear and tear over time, but this is also a way of developing your home’s character!

NATURAL STONE

Natural stone is definitely a durable choice, but it can run on the higher end of the budget scale. Porous stone floors will need to be sealed to prevent water damage. Despite potential maintenance, adding stone floors can be a way to up the luxury feel of your home.

LINOLEUM

Made popular about 50 years ago, linoleum seems to be making a comeback. Linoleum is made from all natural linseed oil, which makes it pretty environmentally friendly. These floors also pretty easy to clean and maintain. If it is properly cared for, it can generally have a lifespan for upwards of 40 or so years. However, if it is immersed in water, it is highly susceptible to damage. Be sure to avoid basement-quality linoleum in your kitchen or it may begin to curl when faced with humidity.
